Catching Grief...Ya Bunch of LURKERS!!

I have been hearing from several of you lurkers about how it has been too long since I posted something. I say lurkers because OBVIOUSLY you keep up with me, you just never comment...it's ok though, if you have nothing to say, you have nothing to say...which is why I haven't posted in a while.
There really has not been much going on. I DO still have a job...which makes me happy, of course. I have been in kind of a funk though...not sure why, so Mom, don't call asking why I am in a funk...it is just one of those things, it will pass.
One kinda scarey thing...at work, a wake-up call of sorts...this guy I work with, 41 years old, had a heart-attack last week, and ended up having QUADRUPLE BY-PASS SURGERY...AT 41 YEARS OF AGE. That just seems unreal to me...seems really young?
So, Jackson missed the bus last week...FREAKED Jordan out when he didn't get off with her at their stop. She calls me all scared, so I tell her to calm down and let me call the school. Well, sure enough, he is in his classroom, so they transfer me back to the teacher. She proceeds to tell me that yes, he missed his bus because he was busy trying to convince this girl Marksley to KISS HIM. Yes you read it right my little 7 year old is a CASANOVA. Well, while it does seem terribly cute, I remember not too long ago that a set of real winners up north decided to press charges against a 1st grade boy that kissed their daughter...I don't need to add "Jailbird" to Jackson's list of offenses!!!.

Imagine My Surprise...

When I got on the scale at Weight Watchers last night and had actually lost .6 pounds for the week!! This is surprising because I went into this week with the knowledge that I would be not only traveling, but traveling to Mississippi...where my appetite seems to go into over drive!! Yeah Me, Go Me, Yeah Me, Go Me!! Anyway, I am down a total of 10 pounds now, in 6 weeks. If I can keep this up, then by this time next year...I will be wearing this...

JUST KIDDING!!! I may lose weight, but come on, I have had two kids...we would be talking some major plastique before I would wear this...but I thought the guys would appreciate it!!

I'm BaaaaaaCCKKKK

Well, I returned to work today fully expecting to be told that my position had been "right-sized", but to my pleasant surprise, no...not yet!! My trip to Mississippi is behind me (frown). I loved going over there, and the kids and I had a great time. We spent time with my Aunt and cousins, and I even got to see my Dad's big brother, Uncle Jack, and his wife Aunt Sue. It was really neat to see all the little boys playing with each other...there were A LOT of boys. Each one of my cousins had one child...ALL BOYS. Couple that with the boys that I brought, Jackson, Brant, and Chase, and you can see that there was a huge amount of testosterone!! Poor Jordan, she was the only girl in the lot...NOT that she cared!!

Having Faith

Distressing news at work this week. One of the groups I work with was just told that a large portion of their work is being moved to our NY City office, and therefore they would be laying off 12 people...30% of their group. No word about my group, which I guess is good news, but still I worry. I do have faith though. I know that no matter what happens, we will be fine. Whenever I start stressing over the things that I cannot control, I just pray. I pray and I pray until I feel better. It usually does not take that long. Our God is an awesome God, and he loves us. I know way down deep inside that if I were to lose my job, yes things would change...dramatically...but we would be o.k., WE WOULD BE O.K. So I want to suggest to everyone that if things seem scarey and bleek...close your eyes, clasp your hands together, lift your head skyward, and let HIM have it all!!! Love all of you!!!

Daylight Savings Time...What A Bunch Of B.S.

From an article in the Houston Chronicle..."The United States adopted daylight saving time during World War I and II to save energy — electric lights, not candles — and permanently in 1966. Today, there are competing studies on whether energy actually has been saved." I don't know WHY we keep adhering to this archaic tradition. It has been scientifically proven that the human body has difficulty adjusting to this time change, and I quote..."Scientists, however, are beginning to understand that jumping forward even a single hour plays havoc with our circadian rhythms, the biological clocks within our brains and cells." I am tired, my kids are tired, everyone around me is dragging today. Jackson actually cried his eyes out this morning, to the point of giving himself a headache that I ALMOST had to stay home with him for. Our "Circadian Rhythms" are DEFINITELY out of whack at the Blue House!! There is one definite PRO to all of this craziness though...it stays light out later. At least you don't feel like it is bedtime at 6:30.

We Have ALL Had This Discussion

Mike often picks me up downtown in the afternoons so we can ride home together in the (HOV) lane, so we were having the "If I were to win the lottery..." conversation. The Mega Millions drawing this past week was up to 212 MILLION DOLLARS...which after the cash option and the income taxes would have been between 80 and 90 million dollars. So this is what we came up with, what "Mike and Laura would do if they won that Mega Millions Jackpot"...we would...
Set up trust funds for all of our nieces and nephews that would provide them with a college education to whatever school their grades could get them into. We would pay off all of the bills of our brothers, sisters, and parents while setting up interest bearing accounts with a sizable initial deposit. What they do from there will be their own business. We would then pick a charity of choice, each one of us (Mike, Laura, Jordan, and Jackson), where we would become involved through our time, talent, and monetary means. Now, there were discussions of buying this...
and doing nothing but floating around the Caribbean for a very long time...but we come quickly back to the reason Mike and I are not in the Caribbean right now, our babies. Mike and I moved around a lot when we were kids, so neither one of us have REALLY good friends that we have known for a REALLY long time...I don't want that for my kids. I am not saying that I would stay in the house that I am in now, but I would stay in the vicinity, keeping my kids in the same good schools with the friends they know and love...yes, I should be nominated for "Mother of the Year (wink wink). That being said, we would more than likely buy one of these...
Where of course all of you would be more than welcome to visit at any time. I think the Blue family would be there any time that the kids were not in school. At this point, I don't think I have blown through even half of the money yet...what to do, what to do?

Mississippi On His Mind

We are going to Mississippi next weekend to visit our MOST FAVORITE Aunt and cousins (hey ya'll xxx ooo). Jackson hasn't seen them in about a year and a half, which in "little kid" years is FOREVER!!! So, he keeps talking about the "Mississippi Thing," like it is some sort of experiment we are going to be taking part in...asking Jordan and I a ton of questions like...WHO are we going to see? Where is it? Oh and the best part is that he keeps asking if "that blond headed boy," will be there...which I can only assume is Daniel. He also keeps saying "Aunt Thea" which Jordan PROMPTLY corrects him on and tells him..."She is NOT our Aunt, and she DOES NOT like being called Aunt Thea...you MUST call her Cuz." So I asked her...ok then, what is he supposed to call the other cousins? This perplexed her for like 2 seconds when she replied...Cuz 1, Cuz 2, etc (kinda like Dr. Seuss' Thing 1 and Thing 2?) Thinking back to my childhood, Thing 1 and Thing 2 just might work!!! (just kidding, love ya'll)...L

Monday is Trash Day

Time to clean out all the junk rolling around in my head from the weekend. Friday night Mike was asked to fill-in on my brother and sister-in-laws co-ed softball team...man, you would have thought that Cecil Cooper had called him up to the Astros to play outfield next to Hunter Pence (if you know my husband this is all making sense to you). He was so excited!! Well, two softball games ended up being a late night of...

Of course if you know Mike AT ALL, you know what he sang..."Neon Moon." He has never branched out...always says he is going to...but never does, it is always Neon Moon. I will say that at least he gets up there and does it, and my brotherman Joe, who is a Karaoke HOG, ALWAYS starts his night out with Gin and Juice. I do not consider myself shy, but I do have a personal aversion to making a complete and total fool out of myself.

Saturday night was fun as well. Mike and I went to the BBQ cookoff at the Rodeo. It was fun, but we went too late, so ALL THE FREAKING BBQ WAS GONE!!!

No big deal...there was plenty of booze!!!
